What is Drakon?

Drakon is both a world and a system. The world of Drakon is one of ancient mysteries, aloof gods, fantastic races, and scheming noble houses. The forces of life and death struggle against each other to further their goals within this world. Slowly, people are beginning to remember the once great heights reached by their ancestors. Magic is abundant, but so is chaos, and everything is simply an adventure waiting to happen. The system is designed for ease of play, and dramatic conflict resolution. Drakon is a form of Live Action Role- Playing designed around the use of foam padded, "boffing" weaponry. As a fully interactive world, it balances the need for structure with ease of play. This allows the players to maximize their in-character experiences and enjoyment, while minimizing safety risks and out of character intrusions.

What is a Role-Playing game?

A Role-Playing Game, or RPG, is a game where in one assumes the role of a character other than oneself. Most RPGs are organized and run by a game master, the players assume the role of the characters within the game. In a RPG players experience situations and interact with other characters within a limited context, typically amongst a social group. Such characters are referred to as player characters, or PCs. The system of a RPG is designed for resolution of conflicts between their characters, other characters, and the environment. The game master typically takes upon the role of ultimate referee, rules interpreter, as well as the directing of nonplayer characters, or NPCs. It is also the role of the game master to construct the universe of the game and further the story through their descriptions and NPCs, enriching the experience of the players. RPGs are a form of cooperative, social gaming, wherein all parts work together to construct a cohesive, enjoyable experience on the whole.

What is a LARP?

Live Action Role-Playing, or LARP, is designed to take the narrative style and experience of an RPG to a whole new level of depth and enjoyment. Rather than stating what one's character is doing, players act out scenarios and interact with other players and NPCs completely in character. The systems of a LARP are often designed to make a situation require but a few moments of out of character discussion, in order to keep game play running smoothly. Everything seen and done by the players, is meant to be seen and done in character. All of this is meant to make the game will seem more real.

What type of LARP is Drakon?

Drakon is Boffer LARP. The term boffer is in reference to foampadded weaponry used in character for simulated combat. As opposed to a traditional LARP, conflict resolution through physical combat is a keystone of a boffer LARP system. As such, players within the game of Drakon will be both accentuated, and potentially limited, by their physical abilities. The introduction of physical combat, however, increases the general risk factor involved with such a game. This requires additional vigilance amongst staff in order to insure other players' safety. The rules of the LARP themselves reflect this added need.

What does Drakon have to offer?

Drakon is a highly developed setting, allowing for many choices in the area of character development. With eleven different races to choose from, as well as five different base classes, players can create uncountable combinations in the realm of simple PC design. The Advanced Class options allow for even further specialization. The setting also involves a fully developed, in character economic system. While players are encouraged to set their own standards of supply and demand, NPC-based organizations will provide a base level of economic stability.

Drakon will be run on a regular basis throughout the spring and summer seasons, holding weekend long, sanctioned events. With a focus on team organization, much responsibility is placed in the team leader's hands. Food will be provided on site.

The fee will go to pay for two days, and two nights of roleplaying, spanning Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. It will also cover dinner for Saturday, as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. If you do not have a team lodging will still be provided, but you will be encouraged to join a team.

What is expected from the players?

Players are first and foremost expected to obey the rules set out in this book, as well as the interpretations of the staff. Secondly, players will be expected to be in character while on site. Players will also be expected to obey out of character constraints, such as the respecting of designated out of character areas and when emergency is called.

Team captains will be held responsible for the entry fees of their entire team, as well as getting a list of team members to the Drakon administrators before an event begins. While solo characters may be allowed for certain events, preference will be given to properly organized teams.

Teams will also each be issued a cabin for sleeping arrangements. Teams will be expected to leave the cabin as clean and in the same or better condition as when they found it. Inspections will occur before and after every event, and failure to comply with this expectation will result in the team being fined for the maintenance and repair of the cabin that they used.

Finally, players will be expected to not substantially disrupt the enjoyment of players in the game. If a particular player or group of players prove themselves to be repeatedly disruptive to the game, including but not limited to the expectations found herein, staff retains the right to take disciplinary action against them.

Once again, welcome to the world of Drakon. May your stay here be fun, exciting, and just this side of dangerous. Enjoy.
